Have you noticed a change in your dogs behaviour over the past few days? Maybe they're a little more barky, less settled or just not themselves? It's likely last weeks heat is playing a role!
The extreme temperatures last week were really challenging! Even though the temperatures have dropped back down to more manageable levels, your dog may still be feeling the effects of last week’s temperatures. And you may notice changes in behaviour as a result.
💤Sleep Quality
The heat absolutely has a negative impact on our dogs quality of sleep!
Then in turn, disrupted sleep influences how our dogs interact with the world. They may be quicker to react emotionally, find it harder to focus, and have a lower tolerance in general.
You may also have been getting up earlier to walk them which disrupts routines.
🏃Exercise
They’ve most likely experienced disruption to their usual exercise routine and if they’ve had less outlets for their energy they may be a bit like a coiled spring as a result!
Again, changes in exercise and mental stimulation also influence the quality of your dogs sleep.
How can we help them?
Keep things as relaxed as you can this week. Focus on getting them back to their usual routine, especially when it comes to sleep.
Avoid asking too much of them training wise, they need time to decompress and bounce back again.
