Focus Dog Training | Helping Dogs and Humans Thrive Together

I've tried everything with my dog's training and nothing has worked

If you feel like you've tried everything to stop your dog barking at other dogs, pulling on lead, chasing squirrels of jumping at visitors and haven't seen any changes, you're not alone.

This is something client's tell us all the time. By the time they come to us for one to one dog training they've usually tried a lot of different techniques already. Sometimes, it's the training techniques themselves that need refining, however most of the time there's something going on outside of training sessions that's stopping them from seeing progress with their dog's training.

I felt like I’d tried everything but was still struggling with my dogs behaviour, here’s what I’d do...

📝Collect some data
Keep a daily diary that tracks:
- How much sleep your dog has had
- Eating habits. What, when, and how much.
- Exercise. What, where, and how much.
- Behaviour. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
- What enrichment activities they've had
- What training and play you've done

This can help us spot patterns. For example, is their behaviour better when they’ve had more exercise or if they’ve been to the park instead of the woods. Are they getting enough sleep? Is there a certain activity that triggers more of the problematic behaviours.

⏰Use that data to make some changes
Once you've got the data you should start to see patterns. Make some changes to your daily routines based on these patterns and start the diary again.

If you’re still feeling stuck, it’s time to get the experts in!
