Let me introduce you to Cooper

Cooper is a four year old French Bulldog who has missed out on a lot of important socialisation when he was younger. His family had made huge progress since they rehomed him and had worked through separation struggles, over arousal at home, lead walking and had successfully introduced him to some dog friends. But they were struggling to make progress with his big reactions around dogs on walks.

When we met, he had big responses to seeing dogs and would run towards dogs barking as soon as he saw him. A previous trainer had used incredibly harsh physical corrections when Cooper reacted, this only made his reactions to dogs more intense.

Cooper didn't need to be punished in order to learn, he needed time to process and help learning how to regulate himself when arousal increased.

We taught Cooper a series of predictable pattern games to help him regulate his arousal, and disengage from dogs. It didn’t take long until he was moving away by himself and recovering more quickly when he did react

Cooper and his family are now enjoying their walks together again, and he’s managing to shake off more and more encounters that would previously have caused a huge reaction
